GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK Coordinates a comprehensive athletic program of the high school level
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
* Prepares annual master athletic calendar; attends athletic events;
* Coordinates and advises athletic coaches; conducts meetings to explain polices and programs and to discuss problems
* Assists the building administrator in screening coaching applications, interviews candidates and prepares recommendations for the building principal and the assistant superintendent for Human Resources/Administration
* Coordinates and participates in preparation for athletic activities, including preparation of facilities, securing personnel (i.e. ticket sellers, gate coverage, police, public address crew, and game officials), arrangement of transportation, preparation for traffic and crowd control and arrangement for custodial coverage;
* Interprets students’ eligibility and prepares eligibility lists; arrange for team physical examinations;
* Coordinates and participates in the maintenance of accounts, processing of required insurance forms, selection, requisitioning inventory, and repair of equipment and supplies, and preparation of budgets;
* Arranges special events such as award presentations and athletic booster club functions;
* Complies with and supports school division policies and regulations;
* Assumes responsibility for evaluating all athletic coaching staff members and observes practices sessions periodically;
* Assumes responsibility for adherence to all Virginia High School League district and regional rules and regulations;
* Maintains Licensure at the state level
* Models non-discriminatory practices in all athletic programs;
* Assumes and performs related duties as assigned by the school administration
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Candidate must be able to communicate effectively, provide leadership and prioritize duties. Must possess thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations, and procedures, and knowledge of Virginia High School League rules and regulations
EDUCATION Candidate must possess a Virginia teaching license; it is preferred that the candidate have the Administration and Supervision PreK-12 endorsement.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must demonstrate the professional and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students, parents, coaches, school administration and members of the community. Candidate must possess good moral character.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classrooms; gymnasiums, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, lifting objects weighing up to approximately 25 pounds, and occasional lifting in excess of 75 pounds. Other limited physical activities are required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Contact with other staff members, coaches, athletic trainer, and parents are required. Contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required.
EVALUATION The building administrator will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
