A Service Dog Facilitator should understand the role of the service dog and be able to work with the dog and student with a disability to help meet the needs of the individual with special needs.
Page County Schools is seeking a candidate confident and comfortable working with a service dog for a student with a disability. Qualified candidates exhibit the following skill set:
- ability to work directly with a dog
- ability in leashing/unleashing a dog
- ability to issue and reinforce commands to a dog
- ability in making judgement calls
- ability in facilitating the student in utilizing their dog
- understand and uphold confidentiality standards
- ability to crate/un-crate a dog
- ability to remove the service dog from potentially "unsafe" circumstances
- ability to collect data related to the service dog
- ability to effectively communicate with the Special Education Case Manager and building administration regarding the service dog
- ability to effectively communicate with student
